Psychiatric care for children and teenagers, with therapy and psychological testing in the same practice.
Request an appointmentWhen a child is struggling, it is rarely obvious whether you are looking at a phase, a learning problem, anxiety, or something that needs treatment. Most parents arrive here having already tried the things that usually work.
A Ray of Hope provides psychiatric care for children and teenagers alongside therapy and psychological testing in the same practice. One team, one record, and no second waitlist when the next step changes.
Child and adolescent psychiatry is medical care for mental health in people who are still developing. A psychiatrist is a physician, so the evaluation weighs sleep, growth, medical history, and how a child is doing at school alongside mood and behavior. Treatment can include medication when it is appropriate, and often does not.
It is not the same thing as therapy and it is not a replacement for it. Many children do better with both, which is part of why we keep psychiatry, therapy, and testing under one organization rather than sending families somewhere else for each piece.
You do not need a diagnosis before you call. Working out what is actually going on is part of the first visit, not a prerequisite for it.
You talk to a person about what you are seeing at home and at school, and we tell you whether a psychiatric evaluation is the right starting point or whether something else fits better.
A conversation with you and your child about history, school, sleep, and what has already been tried. Nothing invasive, and no testing on the first visit. Bring any past records or evaluations if you have them.
Medication is one option among several, not the default. A plan may involve therapy, medication management, testing, school coordination, or a combination, and it gets revisited as your child responds.
ADHD, anxiety, a learning difference, and the effects of trauma can look remarkably alike in a child. When the picture is not clear, neuropsychological and psychological testing measures attention, memory, processing speed, and learning in a structured way, so care is aimed at what is actually driving the difficulty.
Because the psychologists who do the testing work in this practice, results feed straight into the treatment plan. There is no second referral and no second waitlist. Not every child needs testing, and your psychiatrist will tell you whether it would add anything.
A Ray of Hope brings neurology, psychiatry, and therapy together in one organization. For a young patient that can matter more than it sounds. Headaches, tics, seizures, and sleep problems often sit on the line between neurology and psychiatry, and families here are not sent across town to work out which it is. Our psychiatry providers and therapists and psychologists share one record and talk to each other directly.
Call and tell us what you are seeing. If child and adolescent psychiatry is the right fit we will get you scheduled, and if something else fits better we will say so.
